My 'other' career

The event security industry

I've worked in the event security industry for over 15 years now and am currently an Operations manager working for AP Security.

The first event I worked was at the old Wembley Stadium for the Euro 96 game between England and Holland. From there, I've worked in many roles at numerous venues and events including:

Training

I have attended and passed a number of training courses including Use of Minimum Force, Front of House Pit Management, Training Level 1 [Stewarding/Security] plus specific venue courses run at Twickenham, O2 Academy Brixton, Wembley Stadium and the The O2 arena.

I attended a door supervisor course at Meido Consultants, which enabled me to obtain door licences for Lambeth, Westminster and Islington Councils.

I have also attended a course approved by the Security Industry Authority [SIA] and currently hold a door supervisors licence.

I have more recently obtained the NVQ Level 2 in Event Stewarding, Level 3 NVQ in Spectator Safety and BTEC Level 2 Disengagement and Physical Intervention qualifications through Wembley Stadium and am looking at more training to help me perform this role more effectively in the future.

Still having fun?

So 15 years on, I'm still enjoying working in the industry. I've worked with some good [and truly awful!] people and the job has given me a insight into the huge amount of work that goes into getting any type of event on.

I've also been lucky enough to work at some great venues and events and met and worked with some very high profile people as well.

I'm not sure how long I will continue to do this, but I reckon I've got a good few years ahead of me, so who knows, you might see me at event you are attending.
