Security work
I've been involved in the event security industry for over 11 years now and am currently an Operations Manager for AP Security.
My first event was at Wembley Stadium for the Euro 96 game between England and Holland. I spent that event watching the game from the Royal Box and haven't looked back since.
From there, I've worked at many venues and events including:
- Security manager at The Forum, Kentish Town
- Security manager, front of house, back stage and pit work at Carling Academies Brixton, Islington and Birmingham
- Stewarding and pit work at Wembley Arena
- Senior safety supervisor and response team supervisor at Wembley Stadium
- Response team supervisor at Chelsea FC
- Pit work at London Arena, Earls Court and Alexandra Palace
- Party in the Park, 02 Wireless Festival, Route of Kings and other events in Hyde Park
- V music festivals at Chelmsford
- Security Manager at the Henley Festival of Music and the Arts
- The first Twenty20 cricket match at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire County Cricket Club
- Backstage supervisor at Lovebox London Weekender and Love Music Hate Racism at Victoria Park
- Numerous Melas at Barking, Gunnersbury and Lloyd Parks
Training courses
Throughout my time in the industry, I have also attending a number of training courses. These have included Minimum Force, Front of House Pit Management, Training Level 1 [Stewarding/Security] plus specific courses run at the old Wembley Stadium, Twickenham and the The O2.
I attended a door supervisor course at Meido Consultants, which enabled me to obtain door licences for Lambeth, Westminster and Islington Councils.
I have also attended another course approved by the Security Industry Authority [SIA] and currently hold received my door supervisors' licence.
Still having fun!
So 11 plus years in and I'm still enjoying the job. I've worked with some good [and awful] people and the job has given me a insight into the huge amount of work that's done to get any type of event on.
I've also been lucky enough to work at some great events and venues and met and worked with some very high profile people as well.
I'm not sure how long I will continue to do this, but I reckon I've got a good few years ahead of me, so who knows, you might see me at event you are attending.
